Rutundu log cabins are set off the beaten track on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya in an area of pure wilderness and breathtaking beauty. These cosy cabins are the perfect destination for an adventurous rough-luxe getaway. Enjoy hiking in the incredibly fresh mountain air or try your hand at trout fishing in the well stocked nearby Lake Rutundu, or at Lake Alice an hours hike away. You can bring your catch back to cook and enjoy the tranquility of this exclusive and remote destination.
ACCOMMODATION
Rutundu has two log cabins each with open log fires and en-suite bathrooms. The main cabin has a sitting and dining room, a verandah (which is perfect for breakfasts), a kitchen and an en-suite bathroom. The other cabin is detached from the main building and has a bedroom and bathroom. All bedding, towels, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils are provided.
Rutundu accommodates four people comfortably, and has another four beds available if guests are willing to share rooms. The cabins have been built along the principles of the Alaskan log cabin using large cedar logs found in the forests around the mountain. Moss fills the cracks between the logs to keep the cabins warm and cosy.

Serena Mountain Lodge Attractions
Serena Mountain Lodge is the only “tree lodge” with direct access…no offset hotel acts as an assembly area. Bird watching is especially popular and the naturalist conducts daily safari walks through the forest nearby. In this other worldly setting, the drama of nature plays out daily, beneath the rocky, glacier-covered peaks of nearby Mount Kenya.
Serena Mountain Lodge Facilities
The lodge is ringed by a dense forest, which comes alive at dusk with the myriad sounds of animals. It is the closest "tree lodge" to Nairobi and can be reached by a good road passing through coffee, sisal and pineapple plantations. Each of the Lodge's rooms has private showers and toilets. Once in the snug surroundings of the lodge, with its spacious public verandas or from one of the bedroom balconies, the visitor looks beyond the branches of the tall trees to witness the endless parade of game animals.
